Projects

RD-n-P Drilling has performed many drilling jobs in the Midwest area since it has been established.  Some of the jobs performed have been major foundational studies, nuclear & fossil power plant studies, off shore soil and mineral investigations.  The following will briefly describe a few projects performed along with a list of other projects.

GROUND WATER MONITORING:
Harbour Contractors – Elwood, IL (Joliet Army Ammunitions Plant)
RD-n-P Drilling performed decontamination and relocation of 4” monitoring wells at the Deer Run Industrial Park Ammunitions Plant.  All PVC 4” wells were Hazmat Level C & D using all required personal protective equipment.  We installed 4” soul & rock wells.  Also, decontamination of each location & well development of each to IEPA Standards with Montgomery Watson as over-site.  Duration of job was 5 months.

Entact – Oak Park, IL (Barrie Park)
This 4-acre site was formerly a manufactured gas plant, and volatile and semi volatile organic compounds are the principal subsurface contaminants of concern.  We performed decommissioning of monitoring wells and installation of recovery wells for Barrie Park Super Fund Site.  This site was performed at level C Personal Protective Equipment.  Duration of job was 1 month.

Weston – West Chicago, IL (Kerr McGee)
Drilling and monitoring well/rock well installation was performed at this site.  Drilling, soil logging and core sampling was accomplished using hollow stem auger equipment and NX coring for rock cores with split spoon sampling.  Level D PPE used.  Well Development, test borings, pump testing for contamination, and pressure testing of rock for permeability.  Duration of job was 1 month.

FOUNDATION INVESTIGATIONS:
WKG2 - Oak Creek, WI (Wisconsin Electric Power Company Power Plant - WEPCO)
We performed at this jobsite in October of 2001 for the addition of the power plant.  This job consisted of continuous sampling down to bedrock and core 10’.  We also set 2” monitoring wells from 30’ to 50’ for background monitoring.  The duration of this job was 5 weeks.

GME – Hammond, IN (Horseshoe Casino)
We performed this job at the Horseshoe Casino.  It consisted of 18 borings down to bedrock for the possible addition of a hotel resort.  We used 2 Diedrich rigs with the rotary method and completed the job in 3 weeks.

GEC - Hammond, IN (Existing Building)
This job was performed in February 2007 and consisted of 1 boring to 80' by mud rotary method due to unstable foundation.  Duration of job was 1 day and done on rush notice.

Flood Testing - Chicago, IL (New Housing Development)
There were 60 soil borings performed in February 2007 to the depth of 40' for new housing.  Duration of the job was 3 weeks.

OFF SHORE:
Andrie, Inc. – Covert, MI (Michigan Power & Light Co.)
Drilling was done on a spud barge on Lake Michigan in August 2001.  This was done to prove that the soil was too hard to dredge and that they needed a backhoe to dig the soil.  The duration of this job was 2 weeks.

LANDFILL MONITORING:
Waste Management - Chicago, IL (CID Landfill)
This job consists of several borings on Bio-Piles with split spoon samples to determine soil being used for clean fill.  This job is ongoing.

DEWATERING:
Midwest Dewatering – Chicago, IL (Structure of a high rise)
This job consisted of 12 ¼” HSA to 35’ to set 10” dewatering wells.  These wells were put in to lower the water table to pour a foundation.  Duration of this job was 3 weeks

Waste Management - Elwood, IL (ESL)
This job consists of cleaning wells with LBA (Liquid Bio-Fouling Agent) to remove iron and calcium for dewatering system.  This is an ongoing job for RD-n-P Drilling.

ROCK CORE PROJECTS:
Conestoga-Rovers & Associates – Bedford, IN
This project started early spring 2002 with 2 rigs, D-50 Track Rig & D-120 Truck Mount Rig, and is still current.  This job consists of double cased open hole rock wells with HQ wire-line down to the depth of 300’, geoprobe sampling to top of rock with depths varying from 12’ to 40’, 2” PVC background monitoring wells, and where angle holes (Mobil B-4300 rig) are being performed as deep as 400’.  Other special equipment being used are Waterloo packers with sampling system and geo logging.  Also vertical rock coring with approx. 20’ - 50' HQ rock is being performed in the creeks.

CEC - Morris, IL (Kendall County)
In July of 2006 there were several hollowstem holes continuous sampled to bedrock and several wireline coreholes to 250'.  This job required 2 rigs and duration of job was 4 months.

Golder & Associates - Morris, IL (Kendall County)
This job was performed in December 2006 and consisted of several wireline holes to 200', conventional core holes to 50' with packer testing, and installation of 2" monitoring wells.  Duration of job was 2 months..

GAS VAPOR:
Heritage Industrial Services – Rantoul, IL  (Chanute Air Force Base)
This job was done on the old air force base that now has a landfill on a section of it.  These wells were to a depth of 4’ through the clay cap for vapor monitoring.  This method was done with a bobcat using an 8” auger hookup.  The sizes of the wells were 4” in diameter.
